So why is winter so great for sleep? The Cold Temperature!
It’s generally easier for our bodies to slip into sleep-mode when temperatures are cool. Studies have shown that the ideal temperature for sleep lies within the range of 60 to 68 degrees. This is due to the fact that the lower temperature helps cool down our core body temperature. A great thing for those who have temporary sleep trouble, as they are known to have warmer core body temperatures than normal – this causes higher internal stimulation levels and is one of the many reasons why they have trouble getting to sleep.
General rule of thumb: Regulate your temperature, and regulate your sleep!
So take advantage of the cool winter nights by keeping your thermostat down. We could all learn a lesson from our fellow hibernating friends, and sleep away this cold winter season!
