Discover more about these dream-worthy supplements, and how they can help you get a restful night’s sleep by visiting some of the web sites mentioned below. We encourage you to review any questions you may have with your doctor or medical practitioner.
GABA
Discovered in 1950, GABA (better known in the scientific world as γ-Aminobutyric acid) is a naturally occurring amino acid that plays a significant role in regulating and relaxing the body’s neurological system. It also plays a key part in helping regulate and sustain muscle tone within the human body. It has been surmised through research that a deficiency of GABA may induce panic attacks. GABA has also proven to be effective in treating PMS symptoms in women. It has also been used as a sexual stimulant due to its relaxing effects, as it assists with the release of sex hormones.
Overall, GABA has a calming effect on the nervous system and is not an addictive substance. Dream Water® has incorporated this natural ingredient into our formula to provide a gateway to a more calm and harmonious state.

Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally produced by the pineal gland in the brain. It has been found that melatonin plays a major role in sleep and wake cycles. Though this hormone is made naturally within the human system, it can also be found in foods such as meats, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Within normal adults who have naturally regulated sleep cycles, melatonin levels tend to rise gradually in the evening, remain high during the night, and then drop in the early morning hours. Adults who have trouble with falling asleep or staying asleep generally have interrupted or deficient levels of melatonin in their system. Causes of insufficient melatonin levels and interrupted sleep cycles are exposure to light and old age. The use of melatonin supplements have been shown to improve and regulate the normal melatonin cycle, aiding in the treatment of many types of sleep disorders. Melatonin supplements have also been thought to treat the spread of cancer, strengthen the immune system, and slow down the aging process. Medical research is underway to determine whether these additional benefits are indeed plausible.
Dream Water® has incorporated melatonin in our zero calorie formula, to aid the body with it’s natural sleep cycle, helping encourage a consistent sleep cycle, which should lead to a more active and refreshed state in the day ahead.

5-HTP
One of the three active ingredients in Dream Water®, is an amino acid termed 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan). The body automatically produces 5-HTP from tryptophan (an essential amino acid) and converts it to an important brain and mood-enhancing chemical known as serotonin – a chemical that has been found to be responsible for mood, hunger and sleep. Supplementing 5 HTP increases serotonin levels by supplying the building block material needed to make this neurotransmitter, thus enhancing sleep health and overall well-being. Serotonin is also converted into melatonin – another one of Dream Water’s® active ingredients - which regulates sleep cycles as described above. This naturally occurring substance has been distributed as a supplement in several European countries as a medicinal product since the 1970s. It’s distribution within the United States was rapidly increased in the 1990’s, and is now marketed globally as a dietary supplement for use in treating depression, overactive appetite, and sleep disorders.
As 5-HTP has been clinically shown to enhance the chemical balance of the brain's own sleep system, it was important for us to include this ingredient into the Dream Water® formula.
